Clarke Quay is set amidst a backdrop of old shophouses. Here, you can savour a nice meal of Chinese, Italian, Mediterranean or local cuisine. This waterfront precint also holds some of Singapore’s hippest dance clubs for the young and the young at heart!.
Clarke Quay was named after Sir Andrew Clarke, Singapore's second Governor who in the late 19th century played a major role in positioning Singapore as the main port for the Malaysia
The Singapore River has been the centre of trade since modern Singapore was founded in 1819. During the "colonial era", Boat Quay was the commercial centre where barge lighters would transport goods upstream to warehouses at Clarke Quay.
At the height of its busiest era, many boats jostled for mooring space beside the Quay. This continued well into the second half of the 20th century. Also, by this time, the Singapore River had become badly polluted.
The government then finally decided to relocate all of the seaborne freight services to a new modern facility in Pasir Panjang. The boats and lorries departed to their new home and Clarke Quay fell silent!.
Between 1977 & 1987 a major "clean-up" campaign took place of both the Singapore River and the surrounding areas including Clarke Quay, pland to change the area into a high quality commercial, entertainment & residential center. It was agreed that all new building must compliment the historice nature of the area, and that not only should the new buildings be built in this style, as many original buildings as possible must be restored!.

Boat Quay was the commercial center during the colonial era, barge lighters would transport goods upstream to the warehouses located at Clarke Quay. Today, it reminds us of its heritage charm as it brings to us a delightful mix of modern and tradition.
The five blocks of warehouses have been nicely refurbished into restaurants and pubs, where it hosts happening nightclubs like Lunar, a live-act venue with a Chinese twist, and The Clinic, a clinic-themed nightspot. Other happening tenants include the Arena, where Singapore’s first permanent illusion show will be performed and The Pump Room, a beer lover's joint.

Another key attraction, the G-MAX Reverse Bungee is located at the entrance. Hop on it and enjoy a great wild swing defying the law of gravity.
Notable restaurants here include Hooters and Indochina.
On the opposite bank of the river is Riverside Point, where there are more restaurants to choose from. Do visit Brewerkz, a high quality American-style restaurant that offers a range of premium beers handcrafted from a 10hl microbrewery.

There is also a shopping centre opposite the G-MAX Reverse Bungee called Central. It’s a nice place to do some window-shopping.
