Singapore River

Singapore River

The Singapore River in itself is just a small river that flows through the central area of Singapore.

The great historical importance of the river was actually at the mouth of the river which was formerly the old Port of Singapore.

This port was incredibly important to both Singapore as a trading outpost of the British Empire & to the tiny colony that developed into a mighty Asian "powerhouse" all based around the seafreight that passed through the Straits of Singapore!.

Trade, commerce and finance prospered around the river mouth and transformed Singapore from a just a fishing village to a world-class seaport!.

Highlights of the river includes the Merlion Park, where the Merlion stands steadfast, Empress Place, the Parliament House, the Esplanade and museums like the Asian Civilisations Museum and the Singapore Art Museum.

Visitors also like to ‘chill-out’ along Boat Quay and Clarke Quay, where you can have a hearty meal or just enjoy a drink!.

Sir Raffles-White

Located at the north bank of the River, this is the Singapore's second of Sir Stamford Raffles.

Sir Raffles-Bronze

This is the original one cast cast in bronze and is located in front of the Victoria Theater and Concert Hall.

For some tranquil moments, visit the oldest mosque of the island – the Omar Kampong Melaka Mosque or the Toaist Tan Si Chong Su Temple.

You can also take a relaxing ride on one of the old bumboats for a scenic tour of the river. Choose from a range of riverboat services available. You can get on the boats at Clifford Pier, Raffles Place, Raffles’ Landing Site, Boat Quay and Clarke Quay.

For a spectacular bird’s eye view of the river, don’t forget to visit the Singapore Flyer, the world’s largest observation wheel.
